Public health officials have been alerting customers of the Sunlife Organics juice bar that there could be a possible Hepatitis A exposure. The Department of Public Health for Los Angeles County went on to identify the virus infection in a food handler that usually worked at that particular location. The information was made available to the public by the officials in a press release on Friday.

Los Angeles Public Health Department Has Made Hepatitis A Vaccines Free

For those who are uninformed, Hepatitis A is an infection of the liver that is caused by the same virus- as explained by the department. This is an acute disease of the liver that can often turn out to be severe, and in some cases, fatal. As of now, no additional cases have been identified which could be tagged to the juice bar in West Hollywood. Nevertheless, the department of public health has still recommended vaccination for Hepatitis A for patrons who got drinks or food from the juice bar between the 14th – 17th of March 2022.

Also, one needs to remember that vaccination is not necessary for those individuals who have already completed their vaccine for Hepatitis A or were previously infected in the past. In order to reduce illness and prevent infection, the vaccine should be administered within 14 days after an exposure has been known. The vaccination will be available at all local pharmacies or physicians’ offices. Along with that, the public health department would also be offering free Hepatitis A vaccinations to people who have been exposed.

It is usually understood that most people have protective levels of antibodies after just a single dose of the Hepatitis A vaccine- but they can always choose to visit their primary care provider in order to complete the series. But- the series needs to be completed within 6 months of receiving the first dose. Remember, this is an extremely contagious virus and can spread from person to person through the fecal-oral route.
