Former England, Chelsea and Tottenham striker Jimmy Greaves has returned home after spending a week in the hospital.

“We are delighted to let you all know that Jimmy is now back at home recuperating with his wife Irene,” said a statement on his Facebook page. It further said that Jimmy has been unwell for quite some time now and hoped that he would recover fine.

Greaves took to a wheelchair after he suffered a severe cardiac arrest in May 2015. In February, he stepped into his eighties.

Last week, Spurs notified that Greaves had neither contracted the virus nor suffered a stroke.

His Facebook page is handled by Greaves’s agent and friend Terry Baker. The family has appealed for privacy and has refrained from disclosing any further details about his health.

The statement further said that more information on his health will be published as and when it comes. It also expressed gratitude for those who sent goodwill messages.
