The 63-year-old sportscaster from Erie News Now, Gary Drapcho, passed away last Tuesday leaving his colleagues heart-broken.
Gary had been associated with the news network for the last 36 years. He covered the World Series, Superbowls, the Stanley Cup, and a great many numbers of high school championships for them. So, when their long-time friend and anchor left, the news network community was shattered with grief.
Gary had been suffering from cardiac problems for the last few years and it had recurred quite recently. He was survived by his three daughters- Katharine, Kara, and Kymberly.
Erie Sports Now extended their condolences to the family of the demised and expressed their agony by saying, “He will always be remembered at Erie News Now as our friend, a person of faith and our eye into the world of sports.” In a video, they also covered some special moments of the sports reporter doing his duty.
The statement seems to be aptly echoing the grief and shock shared by the larger sports broadcasters’ community as well.
