Easter has always been a time of rejoicing and happiness. During Easter, people come together as a family and have a great time. But during this pandemic, things are not looking any good. Unemployment is reaching sky high and more and more people are facing salary cuts, or even worse, layoffs. This Easter Sunday, a shocking image presented itself in New York City.
A queue of hundreds of people was spotted outside Bowery Mission homeless center. They were looking for a free Easter Sunday meal. Their desperate faces were clear to the public. In the cold with their gloves and masks, the people maintained their social distance as they waited on a hot meal.
The Bowery Mission homeless center has been serving the poor and the homeless since the 1870s. On Friday, they mentioned that their lines doubled which means New Yorkers are struggling to buy food.
Bowery Mission mentioned that they were with the people in these challenging times. The Mission has mentioned that they would be able to serve more than 60,000 meals to the people of New York on Easter.
The cases of the disease keep rising in America making it a very vulnerable place. New York has become the global epicenter. The Trump Administration has set May 1st as the target date to relax the lockdown restrictions.
