Kenny Rogers, the famous American singer, passed away on March 20th and shook the music world. Many artists have sent their condolences to Rogers and his family. It was clear that his death has had a major impact on the world of music. Dolly Parton, a collaborator, and friend of Kenny Rogers gave him a moving tribute as well.
On CMT’s GIANTS Kenny Rogers: A Benefit For MusiCares, she performed a tribute for her departed companion. She was clad in clean white and had candles all around her giving a serene look to the entire scene. Armed with an acoustic guitar, she made a heartfelt rendition of one of Kenny Rogers’ famous tunes. Her voice was moving and it dropped into a poignant whisper as she ended the song with: “Sing your song, sweet music man / I believe in you.”
It was not only Parton who sang a tribute. Other famous artists like Jason Isbell and Lionel Richie also lent their heartfelt remote performance to the owner, the departer singer. The raised money will be donated to MusiCares COVID-19 relief fund.
After hearing about Rogers’ death, Parton remembered him as “a wonderful man and a true friend.” She also mentioned, “My heart’s broken, and a big ol’ chunk of it has gone with him today.”
Rogers and Parton had collaborated for many decades and their Islands in the Stream duet song stayed at No. 1 for a long time.
Kenny Rogers’ loss is truly tragic.
