Bedros Zerdelian on closure of Prelacy day school in New York

Published: Thursday August 16, 2012

To my dear people and to whom it may concern:

I heard from Armenian friends that our school "The Saint Illuminator Armenian Day School" in New York, Queens is closed.

That was an unexpected surprise, as if somebody hit me.

I am very sad and disappointed by this wrong decision.

My family and I were present when the school started in 1977 and during its last Hantes in 2012.

I remember very well the first day of the School, we brought our daughter Vartouhi with us. Rev. M. Kalousdian, Mr. & Mrs. Tatevosian, Ms. Zmrought Markarian and others were present and we had a nice celebration.

So many archbishops have come and gone, starting with Herant, then Karekin, Mesrob and now Oshagan and they couldn't keep one Armenian day school.

That is really a shame.

My heart goes out to the parents and the students because they loved the school very much.

I can't forget the beautiful and the impressive performance of the students during the last Hantes and was published in Hairenik Weekly. I feel very bad.

Mishd sirov,

Bedros Zerdelian
