Dasht, Armavir Province - Fuller Center for Housing Armenia dedicated one more home as part of His Holiness Karekin II work project and Gyozalyan family of the village of Dasht in Armavir province became homeowners for the first time in their life.
It is common to see eyes full of happiness and joy during this ceremony, but this one differed: the eyes of homeowners were full of sorrow, full of tears.
"I could not even imagine that one day we would have our home, and he wouldn't be with us" grandmother of the family said through tears. "My son is no longer with us... may you be blessed and from now on joy and happiness never leave you, let my maternal blessing be always with you."
Gyozalyan family started to build their house in 2008 but could not complete it at the time because of financial difficulties. The father of the family went to Russia for work but passed away there unexpectedly leaving his wife, Laura Gyozalian and children to face life's hardships on their own.
"We want to express our gratitude to all those who help people to make their dreams come true, to people who give their time and efforts so as others might have decent place to live," said Hrant Petrosyan, the mayor of the Dasht village, who along with other community members has been helping the Gyozalian family..
"We hope that the symbolism of the day will become a new beginning of a new life full of successes for you and your children" said Ashot Yeghiazaryan, president of the Fuller Center for Housing Armenia.
The Gyozalyan family house was sponsored by the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America within His Holiness Karekin II "Building on Faith" work project. Three U.S. and a number of local volunteer groups shared their time by building this house along with the family and local community. It was the 29th house dedicated in the frame of His Holiness Karekin II "Building on Faith" work project and five more families are in the process of building their homes.
The Fuller Center for Housing Armenia is a Non-government Charitable Organization that supports community development in the Republic of Armenia by assisting in building and renovating simple, decent and affordable homes, as well as advocating the right to decent shelter as a matter of conscience and action. The monthly repayments flow into the Revolving Fund and are used to help more families, thereby providing the financial foundation for sustainable community development. Up to now the organization has assisted 184 families. Next year the Fuller Center plans to assist 45 families.
