Washington - Armenia Fund has announced raising $20.8 million in pledges at its 13th International Telethon. The live 12 hour show aired from KCET Hollywood Studios and reached millions of households globally on November 25, Thanksgiving Day.
The live program featured Armenian music and entertainment, as well as political and community leaders, and long time Armenia Fund supporters and donors. Celebrity endorsements came from California governor Arnold Schwarzeneger, Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, French actor Gerard Depardieu, reality TV star Kim Kardashian and others.
The Telethon culminated the Fund's global fundraising campaigns that included the November 17 annual benefit gala held in Moscow with participation of Presidents Serge Sargsyan and Bako Sahakyan, the 11th Pan-European Phone-a-thon held in Paris and benefit concert in Los Angeles.
This year's largest single contributors were Russian Armenian businessmen Levon Hayrapetyan and Samvel Karapetian, both long-time supporters of Artsakh who this time donated $2 million each.
Pan-European phone-athon raised close to $2.5 million.
Most of this year's proceeds will go towards improving drinking and irrigation water supply in some 200 rural communities in Karabakh.
Since its inception the Fund has helped raise more than $200 million for Armenian programs.
Armenia Fund continues accepting donations online (www.ArmeniaFund.org) or by phone at 1-800-888-8897 or 1-888-300-9271.
