New York/New Jersey

September 9, 7 PM, New York City. Photographer Hrair Hawk Khatcherian, who recently took a journey through Western Armenia, will be speaking at the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern) in an event hosted by the Zohrab Center and the Armenian Network of America Greater New York region. The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.

September 11, New York City. The Eastern Diocese's Department of Youth and Education will host its annual Symposium for Armenian Teachers at the Diocesan Center. The daylong event will feature discussions led by experienced educators, as well as sessions dedicated to improving instruction skills and sharing teaching tips and resources. The symposium will also include the presentation of the Primate's Award to Diocesan Armenian School teachers. September 19, Douglastown, N.Y. Annual picnic of St. Sarkis Church, Douglaston, New York, on the church grounds, featuring shish kebob and entertainment by FJ-Erevan, KidZone, special supervised activities for children starting at 1 pm.

September 25, 7 PM, New Rochelle, N.Y. St. Nersess Armenian Seminary will hold third annual "Evening Under the Stars" fundraising reception at the seminary's campus. The cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception will begin at 7 p.m. under a candlelit tent off the back patio of the Seminary.  Donation per person is $100 with proceeds benefiting the Seminary's youth programs.  Similar to previous years, college-aged conference participants and young professionals will serve as greeters throughout the evening and share their stories of their St. Nersess experience. September 25-26, New York City. The annual Artists' Ball will take place at Ico Gallery Chelsea, located at 606 West 26th Street (by 11th Avenue) in Manhattan. October 3, Ridgefield, N.J. 50th anniversary celebration of Nareg Saturday Armenian School of Sts. Vartanantz Church, Ridgefield, New Jersey, under the auspices of Archbishop Oshagan and presided by Bishop Anoushavan.

October 17, Oradel, N.J. The Armenian Missionary Association of America (AMAA)'s annual banquet will honor Robert M. Morgenthau, for New York County District Attorney and a grandsorn of the U.S. Ambassador to Ottoman Turkey during the Genocide. Peter Kougasian, former assistant DA under Mr. Morgenthau, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The Annual Meeting Banquet will be held October 17 at 4:00 p.m. (social hour at 3:00 p.m.) at the Hackensack Golf Club, Soldier Hill Road, Oradell, NJ. The program will include a key note speech by Mr. Morgenthau, a musical interlude and will introduce the newly appointed Executive Director, Levon Filian. Further activities will take place between Oct. 15-18 at AMAA's headquarters in Paramus, N.J..  including the annual meetings of the AMAA and Armenian Evangelical World Council on Oct. 16. New England

September 5, Springfield, Mass. St. Mark Armenian Church in Springfield is having their annual Armenian Fest on Labor Day weekend, featuring traditional foods, live Armenian music, cultural demonstrations, boutiques of imported items, and much more. From 10am to noon there will be a brunch with coffee and morning refreshments, accompanied by live Oud playing (Armenian guitar). From noon to six, hot dinners will be available, including hot-off-the-grill shish kebab, losh kebab (Armenian hamburger), chicken kebab, etc. The public will enjoy a live Armenian band from 12:30 to 5:30 pm, with American music in between. Homemade breads, cheeses, desserts, and Armenian pizzas are available to purchase at the bake table throughout the entire day as well. A children's carnival complete with a bounce house, face painting, board games, and popcorn will keep the whole family busy for hours. September 9, 2-3 PM, Boston. The Board of the Armenian Heritage Foundation and its benefactors are pleased to invite the entire Armenian American community of Massachusetts to the ground breaking ceremony and blessing service for the Armenian Heritage Park, which will take place on parcel 13 of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway in Boston. Catholicos Karekin II, will preside over the ground blessing and memorial service in honor of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. In addition to all Massachusetts clergy, Archbishops Khajag Barsamian (Eastern Diocese), Oshagan Choloyan (Eastern Prelacy), and Vicken Aykazian (Eastern Diocese legate) will also participate, joined by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. A brief reception will take place immediately following the program at Joe's All American Restaurant along the waterfront and adjacent to Christopher Columbus Park.
