New York - The Armenian Students' Association will sponsor the Armenian Poetry Project and its annual poetry competition, which is now open for entries.
The joint announcement was made by ASA chairperson Brian Assadourian and APP producer and editor Lola Koundakjian, who is the driving force behind the Armenian Poetry Writing Competition. The bilingual contest invites submissions through January 15.
Ms. Koundakjian, who will chair the APP, has hosted gatherings of the Dead Armenian Poets' Society in her New York City home for the last two decades. Since 2006 she has produced and edited multilingual text and audio for the APP.
Her poetry has appeared online in the Literary Groong (groong.usc.edu), and in print in the Armenian Weekly and Pakin (Beirut). She has read her work on several stages in New York City and Los Angeles.
Ms. Koundakjian served on the editorial board of AGBU's Ararat Quarterly for 12 years. She freelanced for the Armenian International Magazine (AIM), the Armenian Weekly, and this newspaper. A resident of New York since 1979, she holds an M.A. in Armenian studies from Columbia University.
The ASA is the nation's oldest continuing American-Armenian youth organization.
