Watertown, Mass. - After three successful years, the Armenian Library and Museum of America (ALMA) will conclude its monthly "Jazz Nights @ ALMA" concert series on Friday, December 4, with a final performance by the Yulia Musayelyan Quartet.  The concert will begin at 8 p.m.

This will be the last chance for supporters of ALMA's 2009 Spring Sports Raffle campaign to redeem their complimentary "Jazz Nights" tickets and the last time music enthusiasts can see Armenian musicians performing jazz at ALMA.

Flutist Yulia Musayelyan will lead Fernando Huergo (bass), Franco Pinna (drums) and Mika Pohjola (piano) through a program of original compositions and arrangements that features folk rhythms from Argentina, Armenia, and other cultures. The upcoming performance will also celebrate the release of the Quartet's debut record "Caminos," which blends contemporary jazz with strong folkloric influences from Armenia, Argentina, Venezuela, and Russia.

"Part of the repertoire of this group evolved from the exploration of my Armenian heritage," says Musayelyan.  "When I first heard the sound of Armenian folk music, I found to my surprise that this spirit was also coming from within; I began to transcribe folk tunes and playing them on the flute."

Museum doors open at 7:30 p.m., offering patrons the chance to explore ALMA's exhibits free of charge.  The concert will take place in the Museum's Contemporary Art Gallery (3rd floor), a unique venue where art and music collide.  Currently on display is a calligraphy exhibition on Anahid Salakian, MBE.  All of the works on display are for sale with a portion of the proceeds benefitting ALMA.
