Grigor Khanjyan’s spirit

Published: Friday November 20, 2009

Sir:

I wish to thank you for the spread on Grigor Khanjyan's triptych mural in the Armenian Reporter's issue of November 7, 2009.

Gregory Lima, the veteran art critic, has done a marvelous job in describing the essence and value of this masterpiece. He has also given readers insight into Khanjyan's art and spirit. I wish to congratulate Mr. Lima, my good friend and parishioner, for his skillful commentary.

The article and accompanying photos brought back memories of the time when Mr. Khanjyan accompanied His Holiness Vazken I, Catholicos of All Armenians, on one of the pontiff's visits to our Diocese. Mr. Khanjyan was a gentle person and a true artist. It was moving to know that he had worked under adverse circumstances to complete the beautiful face of Mother Armenia and her child only a few hours before he died.

On this occasion, may I congratulate you for your effort in maintaining the high quality of the Armenian Reporter, a credit to you and your staff as well as Mr. Cafesjian.

Very truly yours,
Fr. Karekin Kasparian
