Arts brief: “Hove (The Wind)” to screen at LA Shorts Film Festival

Published: Friday July 10, 2009

Los Angeles - As a part of this year's LA Shorts Film Festival, the newest short film from writer/director Alex Webb, Hove (The Wind) will screen in-competition.

The film features Oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis (Moonstruck, Away from Her) as Zara and Armenian-American actress Shirleyann Kaladjian (A Dirty Shame) as Nina.

Webb's previous work has screened at The Houston International Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand, and has won him a Panavision New Filmmaker Award.

Hove (The Wind) tells the story of two modern Armenian women whose lives are shaken by an unexpected encounter with the past, and the unresolved legacy of the Armenian Genocide. Olympia Dukakis comments, "Hove (The Wind) doesn't ask for sympathy. What it does do is give you the opportunity to feel deeply what the Genocide means in these people's lives – in all our lives!"

The screening will take place on July 23, at 3:15 P.M. at the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theaters, 8000 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, California.
