AGBU Egypt Chairman Berdj Terzian signs copies of his newly released book "Egyptian-Armenian Views on History, Politics and Cultural Heritage" at the Armenian Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.
Cairo, Egypt - On January 18 a newly released anthology of Arabic-language essays by Berdj Terzian, chairperson of AGBU Egypt, was launched during a reception at the Armenian Embassy in Cairo.
The event, held under the auspices of Armenian ambassador, Rouben Karapetian, was attended by numerous Egyptian dignitaries - including officials from various government ministries and representatives of scientific and cultural institutions - as well as leading members of the Armenian-Egyptian community.
Terzian's book, titled Egyptian-Armenian Views on History, Politics, and Cultural Heritage in Arabic, contains 40 essays that were originally published in the Arabic monthly supplement Arev between 1998 and 2008. The articles convey the author's views on a broad range of Armenian issues such as the Armenian Genocide and its ongoing repercussions in contemporary Armenian affairs, as well as the political evolution of Armenia and Artsakh. The book also includes Terzian's reflections on the Armenian Church, important Armenian figures, and various diaspora communities.
In his remarks, Ambassador Karapetian praised Terzian's "astute" commentary and "lucid" style, and described his book as "unquestionably an important contribution to Armenia-related Arabic literature."
Terzian thanked the Armenian ambassador for hosting the book launch and expressed gratitude to Arev editor-in-chief Mohamed Refaat El Imam. The author also pointed out the importance of Arev in providing Armenia-related news to Arabic-language readers in Egypt and abroad. The publication is a joint project of the Armenian National Fund and AGBU Cairo.
