Most nations oppose continued U.S. naval presence in the Persian Gulf, according to a World Public Opinion poll conducted in 21 nations between July and October and released on December 15.

Only in the United States, United Kingdom, Nigeria, and Kenya a majority or plurality of respondents supported such presence, which was opposed in France 43-to-41 percent, in Germany 52-to-33, in Ukraine 56-to-4, in Russia 63-to-4, in Azerbaijan 66-to-19, and in Turkey 77-to-6 percent.

Most of the world also believes that the United States has purposely or out of ignorance "humiliated" the Islamic world. Only in the United States does the majority think the country "shows respect" to the Islamic world.
