Los Angeles - "Defining Place," a group show exploring how artists define their identity in terms of connection to place, opens at the Center for Experimental Art and Architecture on Friday, December 5. The exhibit will be on display through December 15.

"Defining Place" asks its audience if home is simply a residence of refuge and safety or there are multiple definitions of this term. What are the different kinds of connections to place, and how are definitions of home and people's connections to place shifting or changing?

"Defining Place" brings together artists from across the United States who view their respective environs in unique ways.

Ara Oshagan's "Juvies" series explores the daily lives of a group of incarcerated high-risk juvenile offenders in Southern California.

Gilda Davidian's "Portrait Studio" images highlight Los Angeles studio photographers within their own studios and also include interior images of these spaces themselves.

Also featured are the works of Benjamin Donaldson, Michael Cappabianca, and Paul Typaldos.

Curator Tamar Salibian, filmmaker and cultural studies doctoral student at Claremont University, will introduce the exhibit on opening night. The evening will feature a performance by Slow Motion Reign's Vigen Sayadian.
