From Armenia in brief: Iran-Armenia gas pipeline completed, to undergo tests

Published: Sunday September 14, 2008

Yerevan -

The construction of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline has been completed and according to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan, tests will be conducted before the pipeline is put into operation. Armenpress reports that the gas pipeline will import 2.3 to 2.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Armenia. The minister said that Iranian gas will be used in conjunction with the import of Russian gas in case of necessity.

The minister stressed the strategic importance of the gas pipeline because the recent events in the region clearly demonstrated Armenia's vulnerability, among other things, in the energy sector. "By the construction of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline we first of all solve the issue of energy security in our country," the minister said.
