The 51st conference of the International Union of Judges began on September 8 in Yerevan. More than 216 judges from 53 countries participated in the conference, which is being held for the first time in the region.

According to Armenpress, Hovhannes Manukian, chairperson of Armenia's Court of Cassation, said that the judges discussed a number of global issues facing their occupation. The conference also attempted to find solutions and provide guarantees that will help authorities and legislatures fight fairly and effectively against the issues which impede the implementation of justice.

Some of the conference topics included judicial independence, ethics of judges, and rules of behavior.

Election of the chairperson and deputy chairpersons were also held. Maya Tratnik, the chairperson of the union, said that the aim of the organization, which was created in Austria in 1953, is to ensure and guarantee the independence of judicial power and ensuring the trust off the people toward judges.
